Release 101

You’ve recorded your first songs – but what now? Especially before the artist debut (but also with every subsequent release!), there are many things you should consider in order to lay the foundations for a smart and sustainable music career right from the start. But what assets – apart from the music – do you need for a successful release? How much time do you need to plan for and what resources can you use to make your first single a success? Together we will create a solid plan and get an overview of all the tools that can help you to successfully tackle this and all other releases!

1. Set a release date and create a schedule
2. Clarify rights / splits between the parties involved (contractually if necessary)
3. Register song with collecting societies
4. Compile release assets (list as freebie)
5. Search for distribution (DIY vs. label) + upload song
6. Create / update website / relevant social media profiles
7. List of helpful tools for the release
8. Prepare merch if necessary (and print)
9. Plan release party if necessary (e.g. also as a livestream)
10. Pre-produce content + create marketing / promotion / social media plan
11. Day of the release: To Dos
12. After the release: What do I need to consider in the days / weeks after the release?
